Taboo Conference 2018
Identity Redesign + Poster Design + Concept
In its fourth installment, the Taboo Conference is focused on the role of taboo in the media. Pixelation is often used to censor obscene bodies in mainstream media. So, to create a design campaign for the conference, I pixelated pornographic images and replaced each pixel with images of fig leaves from paintings of Adam and Eve.
This project highlights the irony that censorship can serve to focus our attention on the very things that it seeks to expunge. Since at least the story of Adam and Eve, nudity has been censored and scandalized. In Classical renderings of the couple, fig leaves are often used to cover the parts of their bodies that are considered obscene, making the fig leaf the represent the original censorship.
